![]() Managing Director, Aaron McGrath says “This is fantastic news for Sonaisali Island Resort and more importantly, our guests. In the past Sonaisali has only been able to get their guests out to Cloudbreak on a Saturday, but with this new decree more frequent trips to this site and several others will be offered daily. The newly approved surfing decree will now open up more frequent access to some of Fiji’s top and previously semi exclusive surfing sites such as Cloudbreak. NEW SURFING DECREE OPENS UP SURFING ACCESS You can contact them on and ask.My fav resort Sonaisali can offer surfing below is a copy of the new surfing arrangements they have from the website hope this helps! I have met and chatted to surfers who have stayed at both resorts over the last 6 years - each resort's water sports people have apparently supported surfers in the past, and the Musket Cove people have access to private charter boats from the small expat community living at the north end of the Island. Musket is a bit more up market than Plantation, and hasn't had the recent septic system hassles that troubled Plantation in the last week of May and first week of June. The near by resorts - Musket Cove & Plantation both on Malolo Lai Lai surf outside reef breaks nearby, and on Saturday, I understand, can get to Cloud Break.īoth Plantation, and Musket Cove have great kids programs. These 2 islands have access to the legendary Cloud Break, site of the Fijian Masters, incidentally, they have EXCLUSIVE access except on Saturdays. The 2 classic islands for Surfers are Namotu and Tavarua, the 2 southern most Islands in the Mamanuca chain ( out from Port Denerau). I can provide you with more feedback when we return in three weeks! For this we are staying at Dannys Homestay, which has excellent reviews. We have also booked 5 nights at Waidroka Resort, which I have noticed has had mixed reviews lately, but it is another surfing resort further along the Coral Coast!!įinally, we are hoping to seperate the man (and our son) from their boards by spending 4 nights in a Fijian village so the kids can experience the real fijian culture. However, the beaches are very average, nowhere near as idyllic as the golden sands of the islands. The Coral Coast provides plenty of options for children with horseriding, waterfall treks, ziplining in Pacific Harbour and river trips. another three star resort, but very friendly. Hideaway is very good value by Fijian standards. Last time there he caught a taxi to other surf breaks nearby. With a little luck hubby will be able to surf the reef break in front of the resort as others do. We are staying at the Hideaway resort here. On the south coast of Fiji is the beautiful Coral Coast. The islands cater very well for children also. So plenty of choices of beautiful islands which can be accessed from the mainland by an hour boat ride. Musket Cove resort is also on the same island as Plantation, so also has access to same boat.įrom memory and what I have researched Malolo Island and other resorts on Malolo also access reef breaks. Hubby catches a boat-ride with a local fijian each morning to Nomatu. But a point to remember, it is only a three star resort. We are staying on Plantation Island - have stayed before and really enjoyed it. We also have to plan all holidays around surfing, so maybe I can be of some help! My three children, hubby and self are heading to Fiji on Sunday.
